Dr Thomas Crellen

Thomas Crellen is a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow based at the University of Glasgow. His research uses modern statistical and genomic methods to understand the transmission, evolution and control of pathogens. He is also affiliated to the Wellcome Sanger Institute and the University of Oxford.

Currently he is funded by the Wellcome Trust to investigate the carcinogenic liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini, which is among the leading causes of death in regions of Southeast Asia, and to develop evidence-based strategies for control. Collaboration with colleagues at Khon Kaen University in Thailand is central to this project.

Thomas studied his PhD at Imperial College London with a focus on the parasitic disease schistosomiasis. Previously he worked at the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) in Bangkok, and as a field epidemiologist for Médecins Sans Frontières in the Central African Republic.
